Mounting matters most. A lockbox is only as strong as what it's fixed to. Choose a model that bolts through a solid backplate into brick or masonry with the supplied security screws — avoid boxes that hang from a shackle on a door handle, as those can be removed entirely.

Look for attack resistance. Higher-end models carry a police-preferred "Secured by Design" style accreditation and are tested against pulling, prying and sawing. If your box will be visible from the street, the tougher option is worth the extra cost.

Pick a code you can reset. Every model we list lets you change the combination yourself in under a minute. Reset it whenever a pairing ends — that way no previous arrangement can ever come back to bite you.

Fit it discreetly. The ideal spot is reachable in the dark, out of direct sight of the pavement, and clear of pipes or cables. Around the side of the house or beside a back door usually beats next to the front door.

Why a doorbell camera helps. A video doorbell isn't required for a swap, but many members like the extra confidence: if anyone tampers with a lockbox, there's a recording — and motion alerts mean you know the moment your key partner collects a key.
